The PC is cool again

Spread the love

The desktop PC has never been associated with cool, but thanks to some new all-in-one systems from Microsoft, HP, and Dell, that perception is changing. These are cool looking and capable machines that will change your idea of what a desktop PC can look like and what it can do.

Alright so we just designed this great all-in-one PC. Great work guys. Wait, something's missing. Oh right, the keyboard and mouse. Who really cares about those things anyway. Let's not waste our time thinking about designing a great keyboard and mouse. Dave could you grab me one of those cheap sets from the storage?

I have an all in one and would rather have a laptop or even more, a desktop.
All in ones just feel like a desktop, just not customisable and more costly.
At least with laptops, you can take them wherever.

    Microsoft cool again.

I don't understand why anyone would waste money on an all in one. Just build or buy a PC and connect a monitor. It's not that hard.

    If you're an artist.
    You're looking at Wacom.

Let's face it, most people need a laptop. So doesn't it make more sense to just connect a laptop to a larger monitor?
    1. for most it is not worth it to own a desktop in addition to a laptop
    2. these new desktops are nice to look at, but tend to be shitty to upgrade and fix; also they are not very mobile. What if you want a new graphics card, or change other parts due to different needs that arise?
    3. when it's out of date or broken, you have a great monitor you can't use, I assume?
    4. You are more likely to pay more just for the design factor.
    5. What's wrong with a computer case on the floor? Saving that bit of space only makes a minor difference for most people.

It is not wise to hype a new type of product simply because of a design advantage. That being said, for those who care a lot about this all-in-one factor, and who are wealthy enough not to care about the points I made above, why not. For the other 95% it's a bad move.

I have always thought pcs have had better design than macs. Functionality is much more important than aestheticism.

The thing is that it’s not about the hardware for most users. That’s why Apple is so popular, ofc, gamers, and even specific creatives will go to PC’s, they can be customized completely to fulfill the need of the user. The thing is, the UI is still crappy. People use macs because they are easy to use. Don’t get me wrong I love my gaming PC, but I can count on one hand how many times I have received an error message like windows ussually gives me in the past year.

    I think politically correct.

You didn't mention a single desktop PC, which is what most people think of when you say "PC". The title of this video should be "The all-in-one PC is cool again", unless of course you were going for something click baity.

The hostile comments here do a perfect job of demonstrating how little “enthusiasts” know about the desires of the average human. Solid video.

every reviewer at the verge is so patronising and barebones in their review style apart from that guy that does comparisons between android features and Ios ones

Sooo nice to see the 6k likes go up to 6.1k every time I click it.

just rememeber kids, it's not what's in your computer or what it can do that makes it cool, it's whether they have a stupid modern art stainless steel aesthetic to them! lol stupid normies.

nope, i love the easy Apple environment… I’ll never go back to windows again. Workflow!!!
