Pokemon from the Sinnoh region, the location of the Diamond and Pearl games, will eventually be hitting the mobile app.
Pokemon Go is getting updated for a new generation.
In a Tuesday video, Niantic revealed that Sinnoh Pokemon (from the Diamond and Pearl Nintendo DS games) are coming to the game. The teaser shows the three starter Pokemon—Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup—as well as the legendary Pokemon Giratina, although we don’t yet know when the update will arrive.
With four generations now included in the game since 2016, there are only three more before the game catches up to the most recent games (Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon).
However, it’s not just older Pokemon that the game has announced recently; last month Meltan, the Hex Nut Pokemon, was introduced to the game, the first time a Pokemon has appeared in Pokemon Go before being in a console or handheld game.
As well as new creatures, Niantic is also making changes to the mechanics of the game: CP and HP values have been adjusted, Stamina has been rebalanced, and Defense slightly reduced due to heavy tank Pokemon taking too long to defeat.
While the game might not be at the height of its popularity any more, the base is still growing. Niantic says the number of active users has increased by 35 percent since May. This is no doubt due to the increase in the number of social features, such as Friend requests and Gifts, the higher frequency of themed events, and the upcoming Nintendo Switch games Pokemon Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokemon Let’s Go, Eevee!
